WildFaith In Action -- Tibet
What can I do about the oppression of the Tibetan people?
1. Stay informed: Click on any of the links below or in the left column to find information about Tibet. You can keep up to date on Tibet-related issues, and contact your Representatives in Congress, by clicking on www.savetibet.org/
Snow Lion is also an excellent source of information.
3. Prayer:
Buddhist Prayer:
Click here to read the Tibetan Buddhist Prayer Service for the Interfaith Call for Freedom of Worship in Tibet and Universal Religious Freedom. I attended this prayer service at the Drepung Loseling Institute in Atlanta on October 27, 2002, and found it to be a very moving experience . . . especially the "Prayer of the Words of Truth" (toward the end of the service) written by the Dalai Lama himself.
Christian Prayer:
The prayer below was written by the Episcopal Peace Fellowship and incorporated into the Prayers of the People at Episcopal churches for World Tibet Day:
For all those who commit injustice against their neighbors, whether by causing sorrow to orphans or spilling innocent blood or by returning hatred for hatred, that God will grant them repentence, enlighten their minds and hearts and illumine their souls with the light of love even towards their enemies, let us pray to the Lord. Response: "Lord, have mercy."
For The Dalai Lama, that with wisdom and love he would lead the Tibetan people in exile and work for the peaceful resolution to the Tibetan crisis, let us pray to the Lord. Response: "Lord, have mercy."
For The Panchen Lama, his family and Abbot, that they would be granted peace in the midst of their imprisonment; and that they would soon be granted their freedom, let us pray to the Lord. Response: "Lord, have mercy."
That our God of forgiveness and mercy would look with favor on the leaders of the People's Republic of China, turning their hearts away from wickedness and to the Truth, let us pray to the Lord. Response: "Lord, have mercy."
In thanksgiving for the wondrous and rich diversity he has shown us in the many and varied cultures of the earth, especially that of the Tibetan people, that we would be truly grateful and made willing to learn from and enjoy them, let us pray to the Lord. Response: "Lord, have mercy."
